No more feet pricks!

We are happy to announce that Kaniela can stop having his feet pricked. If you read Cea's blogpost last week, she mentioned that since he's had to get tested almost everyday for his jaundice, his feet are really sad to see...they have pricks all over them.

He's been such a tough boy, such a good sport, and really a great fighter. We found out from the doctor today, that we won't need to have him on the lights, and that we won't have to take him to get his feet pricked again.

Needless to say, mom and dad are so happy, and we know that he is relieved as well.

Today has been a good day. Mom felt good enough tonight that she went to the gym to get a little bit of exercise, so daddy gets to hang out with Kaniela at home tonight for a little bit.

Here are some fun pictures of the day. I realize that we need to have more of Cea, so I'll be sure to get some tomorrow!

Hope you enjoy our fun little pictures. Cea loves this picture of me carrying Kaniela in the Moby! Thanks Aunty Melissa for getting it for him!

Happy Sunday. Daily Pic. Weekly Update.

What a great week for our family. Our first full week with our little boy has come and gone, and it has been such a great experience. I remember very vividly when both my brothers had their first children. It was such a crazy thing for me to think that my brothers were fathers. I had no doubt that they would be wonderful, they were great role models and just great guys, but it was crazy none-the-less when I first thought of them as parents.

When Ray's first, Kylee, was born, I was in California serving my mission. I was in my first area, and I remember opening my email and seeing her picture. I remember being so overwhelmed with love and amazement that my brother was a dad. I unfortunately wasn't able to meet Kylee until she was a little over 18 months old.

When Kelii had Emi, I was fortunate to be a little closer and was able to watch her grow up, and also Kelii grow as well. I look at them now and see two great fathers (and they have even more amazing wives who are great mothers) and thinking how cool it was that they were dads...weird, but cool.

Now I look at Cea and I, and I feel that we're in that same, "Holy cow, Kevin is a dad...that's weird" boat. I sometimes wonder what my little sister thinks, or what Cea's sibblings think. I know that it trips Russell out that his little sis is now a mother.

It has been absolutely amazing. We both have so much to learn as parents, but are enjoying every second of it. I am truly amazed at how wonderful a mother Cea is. It really is amazing how instinctive motherhood is. I personally can't imagine a better mother for my child than Cea and am grateful for all she does for our little boy.

We hope that you have enjoyed our pictures from this week. We're happy to say that Kaniela is getting healthier each day, and he is not sleeping on his light bed. The doctors are still monitoring his biliruben count (you should see how pricked up his little feet are...it breaks my heart to see them), but seem very optimistic and so far, he is doing great. He loves making faces, we love taking care of him, and we are so grateful that we have our little family!

Here are some fun pictures from today and last night:
How can you not love sleeping babies. When he sleeps, sometimes we'll just sit and stare at him for hours.
He was glad to see Grandma Shaffer today on her way through town.
This is Daddy's new favorite thing to do. He'll sleep on my chest for hours...I love it!

This picture is for his aunt Mandee...Grandma and Grandpa sitting with the two newest grand babies! This actually was the first time that Pampa Shaffer was able to see Kaniela...he'd been sick and didn't want to spread it to Kaniela.

We're still waiting for Papa and Coco Wunder to come visit. I keep trying to convince Coco that she should come up a month or six weeks earlier than she had planned to hang out and help take care of Kaniela. We'll see what happens though, because anyone who knows my mom and dad in Hawaii know that even though their kids are all out of the house, they are still busy helping others and tending to our extended "ohana" on the island!

Thanks again for always visiting and we hope you enjoyed the update. We'll continue to post cute pictures of our growing boy! Be sure to continue to come back this week...we took pictures with my sister-in-law Ev tonight, and she has some great pictures that we're going to post when they are ready!

The Many Faces of Kaniela

We love to sit and watch Kaniela make little faces. We've tried to capture as many of them as we can. We've decided to dedicate a post to the many faces of our little Kaniela...and for added humor we've tried to name each of them.

The "Oh Dad, stop flattering me...I know that I'm cute" face.

The "Oh Mommy I love you" face.

The "Shhh Mommy, Daddy is trying to sleep" face.

The "Yo listen as I drop a sick beat yo!" face.

The "Holla!" face.

The "Oh Daddy stop it, that tickles" face.

The "Oh, is that a fart I feel coming on?" face.

The "Oh no! More than a fart!" face.

The "When is Dad going to get home from work" face.

The "Okay, I'm spent" face.

Oh how we love our little boy. He makes us so happy, and we absolutely love watching him grow! Ain't he cute?

That Sweet Smile

One of my favorite things is holding Kani and watching all of the funny faces he makes. I've started grabbing the camera and trying to shoot as many as possible. Sometimes I'm not fast enough... BUT today I captured the best one...

My questions is, how can you not look at that face and not just laugh? He is so cute, and so funny... I may be a typical first time mom.. But I think I have the cutest baby in the world! Watch out ladies, there's no saying no to that little smile!

This is a great shot of Kaniela

Cea and Kaniela had a long and tiring day together. You can tell that it is the end of the week. It was so cute, they fell asleep together on the couch (see picture below) and both were sleeping majority of the night. That probably means that I'm going to have a sleepless night tonight because he'll be up the entire time.

I love it when they sleep, because Kaniela does the cutest things in his sleep. When he is falling asleep, if you put a pacifier in his mouth, he'll clutch it with both hands to make sure that it doesn't fall out. But my favorite is when he falls asleep like he does in the picture at the bottom. Isn't that so cute?!

Playing for Change does it again...

Okay, I'm sorry that we're starting to put other things up that aren't about Kaniela, we'll be sure to continue to post daily. We're just finding stuff that is so fun to talk about.

So for anyone who knows me, you'll know that I absolutely love Bob Marley (in fact we're sort of throwing around the idea of naming one of our girls "Marley" but that's not for quite a while). Anyways... some of you will also remember a while ago when I posted a music video from "Playing for Change". Well here is another one of their music videos, and to me, it really captures what Bob was trying to do with his music. We were just playing it and singing it to Kaniela, and he was having a blast. Hope you enjoy it!

Kaniela update!

How can you not love a face like that. We're happy to report that Kaniela is growing and officially putting on weight. He is such a joy in our life, and we love every second that we get to spend with him. Daddy wishes that he could be around more often, but school and work are occupying much of his time. Whenever he gets a chance though, he's got his little one in his arms and loves to cuddle him and watch him make funny faces.

Mom is recovering so well. It is amazing how instinctive motherhood is, and she really is doing such a great job. She loves to sit with her son and is so happy that she has this time to spend with him.

Thanks again for continuing to come back and experiencing Kaniela's growth with us!
